BILL LAAR: Biographical background

 

Bill is a published writer who has worked with schools and teachers around the country and overseas, as a Headteacher, education adviser, Ofsted inspector and consultant, and has contributed as a speaker and storyteller at educational conferences. In his talks and writing, he addresses a wide range of educational issues, such as leadership, curriculum, literacy, story and narrative, children’s literature, and creativity in schools.

Bill has held several key roles in education, including:

·        Primary Headteacher

·       Senior Primary Inspector, in several local authorities, including Birmingham; Barking and Dagenham; and Walsall

·        Divisional Inspector for the Inner London Educational Authority 

·        Senior Schools Adviser (Primary and Secondary) for Oxfordshire

·        Chief Inspector and Deputy Director of Education (Primary and Secondary) in the City of Westminster in London

·        Registered Ofsted Inspector, with many years’ experience

·      Former columnist for the Times Educational Supplement

 

For many years, Bill was the Patron of NPH (National Primary Head teachers) and is a visiting Fellow at Oxford Brookes University. He continues to lecture and write on educational issues and has written a number of books and materials for teachers, including:

·      Primary Literacy Guidelines  (2005: Stanley Thornes)

·      Inspection and Accountability (2006 : David Fulton) 

·      Co-writer of LCP Non-fiction reading cards (FS to year 6) (2007: LCP)
