Biography

Bill Laar. BA. Hons. F.R.S.A. began his career as a primary teacher and headteacher.

He worked subsequently as a local authority inspector for the city of Birmingham; Barking and Dagenham; Walsall where he was Chief Primary and Middle Schools inspector; the Inner London Education Authority where he was responsible for managing a Division; Oxfordshire where he was the Senior Schools Adviser and The City of Westminster where he was Chief Inspector and Acting Director of Education.

He has worked as a consultant to a number of local authorities, Action Zones and individual schools.

He continues to provide training an in-service provision in this county.

He is a Visiting Fellow at Oxford Brookes University.

He is the author of "The Times Educational Supplement Guide to Surviving Inspection"; "Teaching the Literacy in Year 6"; Co-author of "Effective Teaching"; and an O.U.P Parents’ Guide. He is currently completing a book on Leadership in Primary schools.

He has been a T.E.S. columnist and has contributed to a range of educational publications.

He is the Patron of NPH, Leaders in Primary Education.
